The very first challenge candidates face to get MBBS admission is qualifying the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NEET exam once a year. Admission to 1,899 MBBS seats in AIIMS institutions and 249 seats in JIPMER is also granted through NEET exam. A total of 542 medical colleges, 15 AIIMS, and 2 JIPMER institutions grant MBBS admission based on NEET result. The competition for MBBS admission in India is increasing exponentially. For last year of the 13.66 lakh students that appeared for NEET exam, only 7.71 lakh were declared qualified for MBBS admission.
